This costume from the Roma Province is most commonly shown to represent Italy. The skirt is brightly colored and is decorated with contrasting ribbons. The skirt is worn with a white linen or cotton blouse. The bodice is made from wool and laces up in front and has ribbon straps tied at the shoulder. The apron is trimmed with ribbons and braids.
The unusual headdress is called a "tovaglia". The tovaglia was originally made to protect the neck and back and the back of the head from the sun. It is usually made from starched white linen and secured with pins.
